Stars and Stripes - Quilt #17

Fall 2019. I really loved making this quilt! The pattern is beautiful, construction is quick, and fewer seams increases accuracy! This quilt pattern is a win-win-win! I made another Stars and Stripes quilt this summer as part of my first quilt along. I really enjoyed piecing the blocks and having a nice summer quilt when it was finished!

This quilt is for a life-long baseball-loving friend of mine. We grew up together and when inspiration struck to make this quilt, I jumped right on it! I knew exactly what materials and design I wanted, and I am so pleased with how it turned out! This quilt is a massive 72.5” wide by 97” long! It took two quilt holders and two chairs to hold it up for the photos!

I did something new for this quilt too; I used a linen fabric for the first time! Essex Linen in Steel to be exact. I wanted this quilt to be masculine, and I knew linen would give me the look I was going for. The Atlanta Braves fabric was my jumping off point, and I pulled a Kona solid that matched the red in the Atlanta Braves fabric for the stripes. Once I added one of my favorite fabrics, Kona White, I was good to go!

What surprised me most of all with this quilt was that it only took me 21 hours from the very beginning, which included starching my fabric, to having a completed quilt top!

I then sent it off to be longarm quilted with the wavy lines pantograph. I don’t think there will ever be a better pantograph for the Stars and Stripes quilts! I used the exact same pantograph on my summer Stars and Stripes quilt.

Oh and the binding! The binding of this quilt is the exact same as the one on my summer Stars and Stripes quilt. I knew it would work really well for this quilt. I think striped bindings are becoming my new favorite! They just finish off a quilt so well and add that final touch of detail to a quilt!

I also made a mini quilt using an extra block from this quilt. It has the exact same fabrics as the main quilt.

The pattern for this quilt is Stars and Stripes by Thimble Blossoms. I followed her pattern but added 1 extra column of flags and 2 extra rows of flags for a total of 28 flags!
