Lepidoptera - Quilt #8

Lepidoptera.jpg

Summer 2018.

It was a busy year with so many baby and wedding showers! This quilt was for some friends of mine expecting their first baby girl. This is another Elizabeth Hartman pattern, but I made the small quilt version; perfect for a baby quilt!

The dad-to-be is a Charlotte Hornets fan, so I used the team colors, purple and teal, as inspiration for the quilt. I knew they would be good for a baby girl quilt and a fun nod to one of the dad’s favorite teams. I picked six different purple Kona cottons for the butterfly. I used a Kona color card and picked the purples that were all in a row so that they would blend well together. I also used Jade Green Kona cotton for the binding.

This quilt had a ton of pieces! I labeled and clipped the pieces into different groups and then began assembly. I was so pleased with how all of the different color purples played so nicely with one another!

I added an extra special touch to this quilt. After I had finished piecing the top, I decided that I wanted to embroider baby girl’s name onto the quilt! It’s best to do this before you finish piecing, because if I messed up, I was going to have to undo part of the quilt top. Thankfully, it couldn't have gone any better and it turned out exactly like I pictured!

The construction of the quilt went together really smoothly and I would defintely make this quilt again. Maybe in a new color scheme this time! I think the color schemes for this quilt are endless!
