Quilted Lemur Pillows
Fall 2019. The Christmas gifting continued with lemur pillows for my nephews! This was a new pattern from Elizabeth Hartman. I’ve made several of her patterns and have loved each one! Most recently, I finished a Lloyd and Lola quilt.
The pattern designer made an orange lemur pillow back with orange lemur fabric, so that became the design for pillow one. For the second pillow, I used the blue lemur fabric and the two aqua blues that were suggested in the pattern to make a blue lemur. There were 2 lemur fabrics in her new fabric collection and I have 2 nephews, so that worked out perfectly! The pattern has instructions on how to make a left-facing and a right-facing lemur, so I made one of each.
This was my second time working with Essex linen and I love the bold colors! I will blog about the first time I used Essex linen soon!
The lemur faces took the longest and were a bit tricky because there were so many pieces, but the rest of the pillow came together pretty quickly!
My oldest nephew actually helped make his present! He loves to help me work on projects sometimes and I happened to be working on his pillow when he caught me. He climbed right up in my lap ready to help sew! He also helped with the Santa in the Trees pillows that I made. Thankfully, he was young enough that I knew it wouldn’t really spoil his Christmas gift!
I sent these off to be longarm quilted because I needed the extra hands to help get these done in time for Christmas! I picked horizontal lines spaced 1/2” apart with white thread and it turned out great! For these pillows, I made lapped zipper pillow backs which works great because they can be washed easily.
I’m so pleased with how they turned out!
