Dinosaur Plus & Minus - Quilt #18

Spring 2020. New babies call for new quilts to be made! Do you ever have a baby shower sneak up on you? I realized I had just under a month before the shower and I knew I wanted to quilt this one myself, so I had to find a pattern that would make a quilt top quickly. As soon as I found out about the shower, my mind immediately went to work figuring out what I could make! The theme of the baby room and baby shower was dinosaurs and I just so happened to have a stack of the cutest dinosaur fabric!

I knew I had the fabric, but I needed a quick baby quilt pattern. I work a full-time job, so I knew my time was limited to weekends. I went to Instagram to search and see what I could find.

When I found the Plus and Minus pattern by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love, I looked at the hashtag for it to see what other quilters’ experience was with this pattern. Could I pull it off?

From reading other people’s experience, it seemed like I could do it! I ended up making the quilt top in just a day and a half! I was blown away with how quickly it went together! Better yet, the majority of the points in this quilt lined up perfectly which always makes me happy!

This was my first time making a quilt pattern by Emily Dennis and it definitely won’t be my last! Plus and Minus is a great pattern that I definitely see myself making over and over - especially for quick baby quilts! It’s a quick pattern that turns out great (perfect points!) and showcases a line of fabric really well! Emily Dennis has actually made a solids version and I really want to make one of those. I feel like you pretty much can’t lose no matter what fabrics you choose!

The baby size called for 6 fat quarters and the bundle of fabric I used had 18, so I have enough left over to make 2 more of these quilts! (Oh and my day and a half to make this quilt top included cutting all of the fat quarters - enough for 3 quilts!) I used Essex linen in Charcoal for the background of this quilt and I love the texture it added. I backed the quilt with a super soft light blue minky.

I quilted this one with straight lines 1/4” on either side of every seam. It’s pretty dense quilting, but I love all the added texture!

Quilt finished: March 6, 2020. Pattern: Plus and Minus by Emily Dennis. Fabrics for top and binding: Fossil Rim 2 by Deena Rutter, Essex Linen in Charcoal, and Kona Grellow. Backing fabric: light blue dimpled minky. Quilted with straight lines on Juki 2010q with Aurifil 2021 thread.

The blog is finally catching up with itself! I thought it’d be neat to blog about all the quilts I’ve made, so thanks for sticking around!
