Bambi - Quilt #13

Spring 2019. This was a quilt my mom asked me to make to have at her house for my youngest nephew. He wasn’t mobile yet, so she wanted a place he could lay on and play on. It was a perfect way to use this adorable Disney panel that I found!

After I ordered the panel, my mom and I pulled a coordinating fabric from the colors in the panel. I wanted to add a small colored border to the panel and a matching print border on the outside of the quilt. The panel also has metallic threads in it. The words on the panel are a gorgeous metallic copper!

This quilt is so sweet! It’s really soft in color tones, which is great for babies! I picked out a butter-colored minky for the back. It was wide enough that I didn’t have to piece a back for the quilt, which is always a bonus in my book!

The yellow border fabric was also used for the binding and matched the minky perfectly (something I didn’t know when I picked them out)! Both are the perfect buttery yellow.

This quilt my mom and I took to be longarm quilted. Since I’m in the process of looking at getting my own longarm quilting machine, a local shop owner gave us a tutorial of how to longarm quilt using a computerized system. We chose a cloud style pantograph, playing off of the clouds in the panel.

It was such a fun experience and now I want all of my quilts longarm quilted! Look at that texture!

For the batting, I used Quilter’s Dream 80/20. It has such great drape and gives the quilt the perfect amount of fluff and texture! I had never used this brand of batting before, but now I don’t think I’ll use anything else! Between the batting, the minky, and the great texture, this one was hard not to keep!

For the thread, we used a 40 wt. Glide Thread in Pearl. It blended so well with all of the fabrics! Most of the time, I like to pick a thread that goes with the lightest part of the quilt and this was perfect for that!

It finished at 41”x49”, which is a great size for a play quilt.

Quilt finished May 24, 2019. Bambi fabrics are from the Disney Sentimental Collection by Camelot Cottons. Yellow Fabric: Bella Solids Canary. Thread for binding: 50wt. Aurifil #2123, Butter. Quilt pattern made by me.
