Sunflowers - Quilt #2
I made this quilt for my sister. She was graduating college the spring after I learned to quilt. (See this post here). I thought it would be so special to make her a quilt to celebrate! I learned to quilt in the fall of 2013. This would be my second quilt ever!
Spring 2014. I went to the fabric store with the only pattern I owned in hand. This was the same pattern I used in the Quilting 101 class I took. I found this gorgeous sunflower fabric and used it as the jumping-off point for the entire quilt. With my mom’s help, I pulled coordinating fabrics and even a variegated thread! All of the fabrics are so saturated with color! The backside of the quilt is the same blue fabric that I used for the borders.
I worked on it feverishly to get it ready in time! I was so excited to be able to give it to my sister because I knew she’d love it!
For the quilting on this one, I used a chalk pencil to draw diagonal lines 2” apart all across it in both directions to create a crosshatch pattern. This is one of my favorite ways to quilt a quilt!
My sister was excited to receive this quilt and completely surprised!
Side note: I also used the same thread in a quilt for my sister’s 2nd baby. I thought it would be sweet to tie the two quilts together in that way.
